We had our most successful training day yet on 14th January - and were lucky with the weather even if it was a little cold - Joss Gray was outstanding - he did six training sessions with 4-5 pony/rider combinations in each.  Everyone got individual attention and picked up valuable training tips and advice.  Addington provided a good outdoor course, complete with angled log doubles, arrowheads, water trays etc.

Many thanks to Wendy Watherston for organising the day.

We have secured Addington for Sunday January 14th - the day after their indoor eventer trial, and using the same fences, for a Working Hunter Pony Clinic with Joss Gray - an International Event Rider and excellent trainer.  For further details and a booking form, please click here

This training day is now completely full - cheques that were received prior to today, Friday 5th January, has secured a place.  Due to overwhelming demand, we have a waiting list and will try to organise another day soon.  If you have any suggestions as to a date, please click here to send an email

We are trying to organise a jumping session on a weekend after half term, please click here, if you would be interested, giving your preferred dates

A training session was organised on 5th April at Quainton Stud again.  We were lucky to have secured the knowledge of Elaine Wilson as the trainer for the day.

Update:  Many people said that this was the best one yet !  Well done Katy and thank you to Elaine.  She set some interesting questions for ponies that thought they "knew it all"

This message from the Tanners - Hello Sally, Thankyou to Katy for organising the training at Quainton. I liked the jumping bit best, Barney was a super star and even jumped the things I didn't think he would, the lady was really helpful and nice. Patrick liked the stuff on the flat best of all and mum says she thinks we all learnt loads and got a lot out of it. Can't wait for the next one.  Harry Tanner and Barney

Another message from the Newmans.....Dear Sally,  What a wonderfull training session at Quainton last week, thanks to everyone involved .  When is the next one?  Dawn and Sophie

Clinic News from Wendy
29 combinations were welcomed to the fantastic facilities at Quainton Stud recently,  where Rachael Turner took groups of 5 or so.  Everyone has expressed their thanks to Rachael for her patience and encouragement, and also to the owners of Quainton Stud for the use of their very impressive set up,  One member sent this message: I would like to say a big thank you to Wendy for the training day last Saturday at  Quainton with Rachel . Sophie really enjoyed it . Thank you very much . We look forward to the next one.  Dawn Newman

27 combinations braved the January weather to attend our first training clinic of the year at Addington. There were four jumping groups, ranging from cradle stakes ponies to intermediates, and they all benefited from the opportunity to jump a super  course, under the watchful and experienced eye of Jane Beswick, who sent everyone home with lots to think about and work on.  We then moved indoors where 5 combinations were put through their paces on the flat. Thanks to Jane and to all those who sent e.mails after the clinic - it's good to get feedback and makes running them worthwhile. We plan to run others throughout the season, please check the website for details.

From Ginny Duncan

Thanks so much for organising the training day with Jane.  I really enjoyed her practical, straightforward advice and really felt that both myself,  (especially me!) and my Highland pony benefited greatly.  It gave me confidence that his training was progressing along the right lines ready for the Championships

A big "Thank you" to Katy, for taking the above clinics, which were very well attended, with some very interesting and promising new partnerships attending both sessions..

In fact,  2 of the new partnerships attending the training session went on to win classes and take their respective CHAMPIONSHIPS at Area 17 show a couple of days later - well done to Chrystia Reynolds on her new Welsh Sec C (M&M WHP Champion) and Harry Gaunt with Rossdale Sandpiper (Mini WHP Champion)

We are hoping to organise more clinics for the Christmas holidays.  Anyone interested, please email Wendy at training@bspsarea7.co.uk, or speak to her at the AGM

Sunday March 13th - Working Hunter Pony Training (outdoors) with Katy Payne
at Grangelands Farm, Little Kimble (by kind permission of Marguerite Payne)

Sessions were full all day...Katy Payne put horses, ponies and jockeys (at least one a little reluctant to do any flat work!!) through their paces over a brilliant course (built by Sally Skier) which included her famous pens, fully dressed with sheep, chickens etc, a "black pipe" double, and the water tray, complete with flower pots in the middle - the one that caused all the trouble at Bucks County last year.  This time it was not placed quite as cunningly and didn't cause too much trouble.

Several ponies on the RIHS/HOYS trail were getting some invaluable practice - including some from other areas.

Hopefully pictures to follow.....

Anyone interest in further training, please email training@bspsarea7.co.uk
