Young Judges 2012
We are hoping that more and more younger members (older ones and parents are welcome too) will take part in the training - which was hugely informative in 2011. The team would like to thank Julie Templeton, Jane Hastie, Theresa Jackson and Bron Evans for their invaluable input and training.  More of the same is planned. If you would like to come to the training, even if you do not want to be considered for the teams, please email youngjudges@bspsarea7.co.uk for more information

Before training starts however, a tip from one of the best......... Robert Oliver says to practice by looking at photographs, perhaps from the year book, horse and hound or showing world, and say your thoughts out loud - even if only to yourself.

Young Judges 2011
The Young Judges team of Romy Skinner, Fleur Marston and Chrystia Reynolds, along with the individual, Rosie Skier  performed brilliantly at the Summer Champs.  They achieved very high marks in some sections and were only just short of the placings due to their inexperience at the competition.  The future looks very bright!

We are planning to start Young Judges training from next month.  As you may know, every year at the Summer Championships, areas are invited to put forward an Individual and a team for the Young Judges competition. This is a competition that teaches members between 14 and 21 years (Team Event) to understand the judge’s point of view.  In the Individual Competition candidates must have attained their 18th but not their 24th birthday before 1st January in the current year.

The training will include visits to local yards, shows and possibly a trip to the races.  If you are aged between 14 and 24 and would like to take part please email youngjudges@bspsarea7.co.uk The final team will be selected by Sam Tanner before the summer champs.

Once we have an idea of numbers, we will circulate the training dates.

Young Judges 2008
Sam Tanner is the Team Manager this year and is organising training days, not just for those wishing to be on the team this year, but any other members that would like to attend..

Young Judges - Summer Champs  22nd August 2006

There were 24 teams and 18 individuals taking part in the young judges final, both our teams and Individuals were some of the youngest competitors.

Our team players were Sophie Newman, Sophie Bettison and team captain Rosie Skier, the Area 7 individual was Kayleigh Hawes.

The day started at 3.30 with a briefing from Nigel Hollings advising them of what to look for and how to conduct themselves in the ring, then onto the assessing of the ponies. There were 4 lovely show ponies forward with some very experienced jockeys making our teams’ job harder than ever as far as awarding points was concerned. The final part of the competition was to answer questions on their marks, conformation, rules and ring procedure, luckily the team drew the first straw and felt confident in their answers and finished at about 6pm, Kayleigh however had drawn 34th slot, meaning a lonely and nerve wracking wait until 8.30!

The final presentation was to take place at 9.30 in the Vauxhall ring, however due to the large number of entries it started at 10.15, nerves were rising as the presentation of awards was announced.

Sadly we were not in the top 6 in either section but congratulations to you all on your continued hard work and improvement. We are all very proud of you for representing Area 7. You all showed great maturity and commitment.

 Young Judges Training

Young judges training going well, with commited future stars! On the last training at Peterly, Prestwood, the faithful crew had to judge a first ridden SHP class and decide what rules were being broken if any, mark both phases and comment on placings for a mixed bag of ponies and riders. This was almost under championship conditions as they only had 1 1/2 minutes to look at the ponies in hand and then feed back what they thought they saw using technical 'judges speak'.  Thank you to the volunteers who put their ponies forward for scrutiny, (Holly Shellards' Vinnie, Rose Lehups' Saracen Lad and Lady ridden by Harry Tanner and Abigail Mcullock and Barney ridden by Patrick Tanner). All the riders did a grand job and played with the worker jumps afterwards.  Remember that the champs are only 2 months away and there is still alot to learn and talk about, so if there is anyone out there who want to offer ponies for scrutiny and a mock show day assessment contact Sam Tanner or Katie Payne.

Fun and informative, it will give you an insight into what judges are looking for at shows, help you spot confirmation faults when purchasing a new pony, learn the correct way of going and showing a pony to its best.  We would welcome any members who wish to learn - whether or not they wish to compete.  Our aim is to make Area 7 a force to contend with !!!

We hope to see lots of you at the following training sessions:
